Roy Keane believes Chelsea were “patronising” Manchester United after their win at Stamford Bridge on Friday night.
The Blues ground out a vital 1-0 win to keep their Champions League hopes alive with Marc Cucurella heading home the winner in the second half.
The win means the Blues now need to beat Nottingham Forest on the final day to guarantee their return to Europe’s premier club competition.
Maresca made a few changes from the team that lost to Newcastle with Reece James, Tosin Adarabioyo and Tyrique George all coming into the starting line-up.
Truth be told it wasn’t a good performance from the Blues who struggled for the majority of the game, but they were able to produce one moment of quality in the second half.
Chelsea recorded a vital victory against Man United.
United themselves only had one shot on target, but it was very much a nervy affair at Stamford Bridge with so much at stake.
You could see the relief in both the goal and full time celebrations, and Keane believes Chelsea did something United used to do to teams.
“Even the Chelsea manager is patronising them by saying “they played well, they pressed us, they were dangerous”, they beat them 1-0 and United had one shot on target,” he said at cited on X.com.
“What they are doing is patting them on the head going “off you go back up to Manchester”, that’s what Man United used to do to teams years ago.”
It’s been a difficult season for James, who has once again missed a lot of action with a hamstring injury, but since returning in January he’s managed to stay fit.
Maresca deserves huge credit for the way he’s managed his minutes, and James has now made 25 appearances in all competitions, significantly more than he managed last season.

Despite reports linking him with a move away, Romano has confirmed Chelsea never considered selling the 25-year-old.
Chelsea will hope James can stay fit for the majority of next season as he makes such a big difference to this team.
