Arsenal are through to the last 16 of the Europa League, so here is the list of potential opponents they could face in the next stage of the competition.
Mikel Arteta‘s men rounded off their Europa League campaign with a win at the Emirates against Swiss side FC Zurich, which meant that they beat PSV Eindhoven to the top spot in Group A.
Excellent news for the London side as it means they completely bypass the Europa League play-off round and sail immediately into the round of 16. Fellow English side Manchester United did not have the same fate, finishing second which means they have the danger of facing a Champions League third-place side, which include some gargantuan names.
But with Arsenal’s fate lying in the round of 16, who could they potentially face at this stage of the tournament? Find out everything you need to know below.
Arsenal can face a number of teams, but it’s all dependent on how the fixtures go in the play-off round. Right now, they have a chance of facing two sets of teams, sides that have qualified through finishing second place in the Europa League and Champions League third-place finishers.
These are all as follows:
Champions League third-placed teams:
Europa League runners-up:
This is all subject to change following the results of the playoff rounds, but Arsenal could potentially be playing some top-draw sides.
The biggest is undeniably Barcelona. Xavi’s men endured a horrific Champions League campaign, thrashed by Bayern Munich both times and unable to beat Inter Milan, meaning they fall sadly into the Europa League play-off round.
Manchester United would also be a huge fixture, with the Gunners looking to seek revenge after Erik ten Hag‘s men handed them their first defeat of the season in the Premier League.
Arsenal fans will have to wait a good while to know their fate, with the last-16 draw taking place on Friday, February 24th 2023, after the play-off fixtures are all done and dusted.
