Ramsdale's aims to play in the United States for England in the next World Cup will be harmed if he stays at St Mary's. The 28-year-old moved to the south coast last summer for an initial £18 million, with up to £6 million in potential add-ons.

The goalkeeper wasn't able to help keep the Saints up in their first season back in the top flight, and clubs from their old division are looking to take advantage of Southampton's drop and the available talent in their squad.

West Ham have reportedly held talks with Ramsdale. His £100,000 per week wage was, however, said to be a potential issue for some clubs looking at signing the England international, according to The Times, and there is yet to be any concrete progression on a move away from St Mary's for him.

Southampton not confident of keeping Aaron Ramsdale this summer

Southampton's chairman has admitted that the prospects of keeping Ramsdale this summer are not high. Solak wants to get £100 million for the top English players on his books this summer, as per talkSPORT, but he said that the shot-stopper has looked at potentially coming back to Hampshire should his current club find their way back to the Premier League.

"We unfortunately are not sure that Ramsdale is going to stay, even though he loves the club," Solak told the Daily Echo.

"He's a great young man, everybody loves him, but he wants to get his place in the national team and it's not easy to get there in the Championship.

"He's even personally looking at all the options of how he would go and come back if we are promoted because he loves the place and he loves the club.

"But generally we understand that he needs to stay within the Premier League level of football to achieve his goals and we will not stop that.

"We want also what is best for him. And there are a couple of other guys, I don't want to throw names now, who are at a certain place in their careers.

"They probably are not great fit for Southampton. And if Southampton is not a great fit for them, Rasmus Ankersen [CEO of Sports Republic] and I will try to make the best out of it. We have WhatsApp groups and exchange a lot of information every day."

Southampton must be sensible with Aaron Ramsdale asking price

Because of his wages and the clubs that are likely to be interested in Ramsdale, Southampton need to be realistic about the fee that they can demand for their number one.

Not many clubs in the Premier League are looking at signing a glovesman this summer, and even fewer have been linked with the Saints man.

They need to raise funds to allow them to spend and rebuild this squad in Will Still's image this summer too.
