Roma have mathematically secured sixth place in Serie A, which could potentially qualify them for the 2024-25 Champions League.
The Giallorossi beat Genoa 1-0 this evening with a Romelu Lukaku header, despite Leandro Paredes getting himself sent off for dissent.
As Lazio drew 1-1 with Inter earlier today, that opens up a three-point gap between the city rivals.
It is enough for Roma, who have a superior head-to-head record with the Aquile, so cannot be overtaken in the final round of the season.
As things stand, this qualifies them for the Europa League, but that could change.
In order for sixth to be worth the Champions League, Roma need Atalanta to both beat Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League Final in Dublin on Wednesday and to finish fifth in Serie A.
If Atalanta were to finish third or fourth in the Serie A table, then the extra slot would not open up.
This is because UEFA set the entry rules before Italy secured the fifth place in the tournament thanks to having the best club ranking.
It is possible Roma won’t know their fate until June 2, because Atalanta have a game in hand to be played against Fiorentina after the rest of the season has already ended.
