Former Sheffield Wednesday winger Adam Reach has caught the attention of both Blackburn Rovers and West Brom this summer, following his contract expiring with The Owls expiring in late June.

A FLW exclusive earlier on in the year outlined that Cardiff City and Watford were headlining the chase for the out-of-contract left-footed man, but it is now a race that looks completely different.

Blackburn joined the chase for the 28-year-old in late June, but the free agent’s contract at Sheffield Wednesday far exceeded what Rovers can afford, and if any move is to be made, that will need addressing first and foremost.

In what was described as a surprise in the original tweet, Alan Nixon reported last week that newly-relegated Championship club West Brom, are also in pursuit of the former Wednesday man.

Before Reach secures a deal this summer, he is set for one final payout from Sheffield Wednesday. As part of the EFL’s ‘severance pay’ regulation, The Owls will have their outgoing out-of-contract players a month’s wages after their contract expires.

This rule encourages interested parties to wait until that month is over before pursuing a deal – partially explaining why clubs are yet to strike a deal for the 28-year-old.

With that month coming to an end, it will be no surprise to see the clubs in pursuit step up their chase over the next few days.

It remains to be seen whether other clubs express an interest in the former Wednesday man after his final wage is paid at the now League One club.
