Liam Manning's win percentage is lower than Nigel Pearson's as the pressure grows on the Bristol City boss.

Bristol City’s mixed start to the season continued on Wednesday night as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Sheffield Wednesday at Ashton Gate.

The performance prompted boos from the home support after the game, with boss Liam Manning feeling that criticism was unfair.

On paper, the Robins are in a decent position, as they sit 13th in the table, although they are five points away from the play-off places, and there is a growing unhappiness among the fan base.

Liam Manning’s Bristol City win percentage

The 38-year-old was named as Bristol City boss in November last year, with the club turning to Manning after his impressive work at Oxford United.

Despite that, it was a bold choice at the time, as Nigel Pearson had made many changes at the club, and they were 15th in the table, so it was by no means a disastrous situation.

But, Manning was seen as a bright, progressive coach who would be able to introduce an attacking style as well as getting results.

However, it’s fair to say it hasn’t really gone to plan so far.

In his 44 games in charge, Manning has won 14, which works out as a win percentage of 31.8%.

When you consider that Pearson was dismissed when he had a 32% win percentage at Ashton Gate, the stats suggest that Manning hasn’t made the improvements that the club would’ve hoped for.

In fairness to Manning, some leeway would be given initially due to the fact that he was inheriting a side that Pearson had built.

Furthermore, Manning did take over a Bristol City side that finished 11th, which was four places higher than when he took over.

So, the spotlight was always going to be on this season, as the boss had pre-season to work with the players, and he had brought in more of his own new signings.

Yet, after eight games, they have won just two, which is a 25% win rate. Of course, it’s a very small sample size, and they have only lost twice, but the fans were hoping to see major signs of progress, and it hasn’t happened so far, and there was talk last month that Manning was under pressure.

Liam Manning needs improvements quickly at Bristol City

It’s never good for a manager when the fans boo the players off the pitch, particularly when they have drawn the game, as they are clearly not happy with the performances.

That proves all is not well at Bristol City, and the supporters have the right to voice their frustrations, as they’re the ones that watch and pay their money each game.

These things happen in football, and Manning will know that supporters only want what’s best for the club, so some positive performances and wins will change the mood.

There is no indication that he is close to losing his job, but when a section of the fans turn it can be difficult, so it will be interesting to see how the board approach this considering they had taken a gamble in giving Manning the job in the first place.

Bristol City are back in action against rivals Cardiff City this weekend ahead of the international break.
