Joe Cole has revealed what he wants to see more of from Jadon Sancho following Chelsea’s win against Legia Warsaw on Thursday night.

The Blues ran out 3-0 winners in Poland in the first leg of their Conference League quarter final tie to all but secure their place in the last four.

After a disappointing first half performance, Chelsea improved massively with Tyrique George scoring his first goal for the club, and Noni Madueke bagging a brace from the bench.

Cole praises Sancho

Maresca made a number of changes from the goalless draw against Brentford, but Sancho kept his place in the side.

The winger is facing an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge after a series of underwhelming performances and is still yet to score in 2025.

However, after a poor first half showing Sancho improved significantly in the second as he assisted Madueke for both his goals, with Cole insisting the 25-year-old needs to be more direct in his play.

“A big night for this man, Sancho, there’s a lot of talk about his future,” Cole told TNT Sports.

“That’s what I want to see more from him: take him on the outside. You want to see him be more direct, and he was tonight in the second half. Pleased for him as well.”

It was certainly an impressive second half display and a timely one given the Blues are likely to take a decision at the end of the season on whether to send him back to Manchester United.

Sancho has come under fire for his performances and a return of just two goals in the Premier League isn’t great for a player Maresca described as special earlier this season.

There’s still plenty to play for and if Sancho wants to prolong his stay at Stamford Bridge beyond the end of the season he will need to put in more performances likes that as the Blues look to secure Champions League football and win the Conference League.
