‘What I understand’ – Fabrizio Romano shares what he’s hearing about Gareth Southgate & Man Utd job this morning | OneFootball

The international break has come around with no shortage of noise surrounding Erik ten Hag’s as Manchester United manager.

Former England manager Gareth Southgate has ruled himself out of the race to succeed Ten Hag should the Dutchman leave United.

There has been constant talk about Ten Hag potentially getting sacked, but that has cooled since Tuesday’s executive meeting in London.

However, the coast is not clear for the manager just yet. United need to come back after the October international break and win football matches.

That is the only way Ten Hag can turn things around at Old Trafford.

Confirming that he is taking a break from football, Southgate stated (via The Athletic): “I am enjoying my life so there is no rush. For 11 years, I committed fully to the national federation. I won’t coach in the next year for sure. I am certain of that. When you come out of a big role, you need to give your body time, your mind time.”

This, of course, means we won’t need to worry about Southgate getting his hands on the United job. His limited experience at club level means he would be walking into a completely different animal if he were to land the Old Trafford gig.

The pressure would be 10x times what he experienced as England manager.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano shared a vague update via his Daily Briefing newsletter this morning regarding Southgate and United.

In case you didn’t already know, Southgate is not lying (lol) about wanting to take a break from the game.

“Former England manager Gareth Southgate has announced that he will not return to coaching within the next year and from what I understand he has been clear and is telling the truth.”

Thanks for that, Fab! Not that we thought Southgate was lying…

However, in the same update, Romano claims United have not been in contact with any potential managerial replacements.

Romano added: “Despite rumours linking him to Man United, I can say that there are no talks taking place with the Manchester club right now or anyone else. Southgate wants to take some free time before making any decision on the next step for his career. It’s all quiet regarding the English coach’s future.”
