If reports are to be believed, Bristol City are wasting no time attempting to strengthen their defensive line in preparation for the 2022/23 Championship season and that will likely mean that Taylor Moore’s exit is not far away.

The centre-back has spent the season north of the border on loan at Hearts, labelling it as probably his “favourite experience in football so far”, but the Scottish club opted against making the move permanent.

That means the 25-year-old returns to Ashton Gate with a year still left on his contract, but even so, it does seem as though we won’t see him in a City shirt again.

Defensive reinforcements are being sought – the Robins are said to have made a move for Derby County’s Curtis Davies while Northampton Town’s Fraser Horsfall is reportedly a target and Oxford United’s Elliott Moore has also been linked – which indicates there is likely no place for him in Nigel Pearson’s plans while the manager suggested back in August he was open to Moore departing permanently.

According to Bristol Live, the central defender is expected to leave the club in the upcoming window and his relatively low wages (around £2,600-a-week as per Salary Sport) should mean that suitors are not hard to find.

He once seemed like the future of the Robins’ backline but things haven’t worked out for him in Bs3 and a fresh start does now seem like the best move for both parties.

It’s going to be interesting to see where he ends up – a League One or lower-table SPFL club appears the most likely.
