Barcelona head coach Xavi has on Saturday provided a fresh insight into his future with the club.

As much, of course, comes amid rampant speculation that the Spaniard could yet be sent on his way with a view to next season.

After Joan Laporta and the Barcelona board were left furious with the club’s headmaster owing to comments made during his midweek pre-match press conference, it has been widely reported that his future – confirmed by the Blaugrana just weeks ago – has been thrown back up in the air.

Some outlets, in fact, have gone as far as to suggest that the decision to dismiss Xavi has already been made.

Speaking in his latest press conference, ahead of Sunday’s meeting with Rayo Vallecano, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of his position on the bench in Catalunya’s capital took its place front and centre in proceedings.

The former Barcelona midfielder, however, was quick to assure that he maintains the full backing of the board at the Camp Nou.

Below, some of Xavi’s most notable quotes are highlighted:

“The club is sharing confidence with me. The president and Deco send me clear, positive messages. I don’t care about the rumours, I care about the Barça board and nothing has changed. We have a project, we keep going with our plan.

“Nothing at all has changed. If something changes, we will let you know… but we are calm. Focused on this project. This squad has extraordinary quality and we will try to win titles next season. Our project remains clear.

“I have zero doubts, really. I’m hungry, I’m confident, I’m proud to be at the club of my life and I’m happy to compete at the best level for next season. I like the team, we have a lot of top players, many from La Masia… it’s all clear.

“President Laporta has sent me positive messages, nothing else. Full focus on tomorrow’s game. I feel good, I’m happy. It’s great to be Barça manager as it’s the best club in the world. I’m sure things can go very well in the future for our project.”
