Daniel Munoz open to leaving as FA Cup winners welcome another flying full-back to Selhurst Park
The prevailing image of Crystal Palace's season was Daniel Munoz galloping down the Wembley touchline before crossing for Eberechi Eze to slide home the winning goal in the FA Cup final.
That goal, now etched into history, was Palace at their swashbuckling best, with Munoz, who has since revealed that he is open to leaving the club, carrying a generation of hopes and dreams fearlessly down the right flank.
From local lads Tyrick Mitchell and Aaron Wan-Bissaka to adopted hometown hero Joel Ward, Palace have an affinity for full-backs that few other clubs can replicate.
Palace's love for football's most unloved position will be music to the ears of their latest signing, Borna Sosa -a man desperately searching for a place to call home after becoming the fall guy for a tumultuous period at his former club Ajax.
Signed by the much-revered Sven Mislintat, formerly of Arsenal, Sosa inadvertently became the face of the German's brief time as Ajax's director of football, falling out of favour as soon as Mislintat was relieved of his duties just four months after taking the role.
Sosa's move from Stuttgart to Ajax was embroiled in controversy from the start and he eventually left on loan for Torino last season.
It was quickly forgotten but, back at Stuttgart, Sosa had been a delightfully daring full-back with a cross that was the envy of Europe - he ranked among the top 10 players in the Bundesliga for key passes and crosses into the penalty area every season for three successive years.
“I’m a player who likes to attack, to bring crosses, to make a lot of actions,” Sosa said in his first Palace interview. “I like games that go up and down, with lots of things going on.”
He'll find plenty of that at Palace, who scored the joint-fifth most goals from counter-attacks in the Premier League last season.
At 27, Sosa, who has signed a three-year deal at Palace, will add depth to Oliver Glasner's side as they prepare to compete in Europe next season. Whether it's the Europa League or the Conference League, Sosa has experienced both and will provide able competition to Mitchell.
As one flying full-back signals his intention to potentially leave Palace this summer, another is ready to make his mark.
Sosa, who is Palace's second signing of the summer after goalkeeper Walter Benitez, will bring energy, creativity and a hunger to rediscover his best football at a club that's taken many a full-back into their hearts.
