Real Madrid bounced back from their shock Copa del Rey elimination by ruthlessly ruining Alavés’ centenary celebrations with an impressive display.

With 15 minutes on the clock, Real took the lead when Casemiro powered a low header into the corner of the net, leaving goalkeeper Fernando Pacheco flat-footed.

They doubled their lead when Karim Benzema was given too much time on the edge of the box to make space and rifle an emphatic effort high into the net.

In first half injury-time, Eden Hazard added a third when he was picked out behind the defence and calmly finished for what is only his third LaLiga goal.

Alavés pulled one back after an hour with a thumping header from Joselu but Benzema soon restored the three-goal advantage by cutting in from the left to bury the ball into the far corner for his second.

The result moves Los Blancos to within four points of league leaders Atlético, who have two games in hand.
