Chelsea left-back Ian Maatsen will join Championship outfit Coventry City on a season-long loan deal next week, as per The Athletic.

The talented 19-year-old went out on loan to League One side Charlton Athletic last season, making a respectable 35 appearances in the third tier, impressing for Nigel Adkins’ side as they missed out on the play-offs.

But after playing so well at The Valley, the Dutchman may earn his move up to the second tier regardless and according to The Athletic’s Liam Twomey, he will now link up Mark Robins’ side ahead of the 2021/22 league campaign.

With Coventry City operating with a back five and Norwich City’s Sam McCallum returning to the Canaries before going back out on loan at QPR, he is likely to start at left wing-back for the West Midlands side as they look to build on a promising first season back in the Championship.

And with another left-back in Brandon Mason being linked with an exit amid strong interest from Portsmouth, this could be seen as a much-needed signing for Mark Robins with the new season just over two weeks away.
