The Red Devils’ European hopes took another blow as they lost 3-1 in North London before the international break. A top three finish is now very much out of Manchester United’s hands.
Speaking to the media ahead of this afternoon’s fixture against West Ham United, Manchester United boss Skinner said that his side can only look forward.
“There are things that we will discuss about the game [against Arsenal] but the reality is, it’s going to be a totally different game against West Ham and we have had to prepare for that, especially given the short turnaround,” Skinner said.
“You can look back all you want but we’ve got to look forwards. We’ve got to get the energy right and the players back on the same page again [after the international break]. There’s too little time to look backwards; we need to use it, push the energy we want from that into this next game against West Ham.”
Going on to discuss the challenge posed by West Ham United, Skinner highlighted the difference in playing The Hammers on their own turf.
He said “Playing West Ham away is different to playing them at home. The pitch is different; Arsenal went there and dominated in a lot of areas but lost the game. I think you’ve got to play against what the pitch gives you, play against the strengths and weaknesses of West Ham, so what I want to see is high energy, high transition energy.
“I have the utmost respect for West Ham because I can see what Rehanne [Skinner] is doing, I can see what they’re doing as a team and this is not going to be anything like the first game.
“Every time you play at West Ham, it’s a difficult game, we are expecting that. We will have to be ready mentally and physically.”
Manchester United’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at West Ham United kicks-off at 3pm.
