FC Barcelona, under Hansi Flick, have emerged as one of the best teams in Europe so far this season. Both in La Liga and the Champions League, the club has been in excellent form, beating the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich among other impressive results.

The German coach has revolutionized the way Barcelona play football. One of the most attacking teams in Europe, the team has frequently outscored opponents and won by big margins, even in the big games against top European opposition.

Back in the summer, during the transfer window, Barcelona made two signings – Dani Olmo and Pau Victor. The former was a marquee signing and it is safe to say that despite his injury issues, whenever fit, he has proven to be a game-changer so far.

With the winter transfer window soon approaching, Barcelona sporting director Deco was quizzed about the club’s plans and whether they are planning on making any new signings. As quoted by Mundo Deportivo, here is what he had to say:

“We’ve been discussing since summer. The squad is well-rounded. We had the unforeseen problem with Ter Stegen but addressed it by signing another goalkeeper. At the start of the season, we knew we’d eventually get Gavi and Frenkie back.”

We didn’t anticipate the issues with Araujo and Christensen, but they will also recover. Soon we will have Christensen, Araujo, Ferran, and Eric available, which means four more players. I think our squad is well-covered in all positions.”

It is very difficult to decipher the club’s plans from Deco’s words. While he has mentioned that they are discussing, he has also claimed that they have a squad that is well-covered in all positions. Even otherwise, it would be a huge surprise if Barcelona made any significant outlay in January.

Hansi Flick, during his short stint at the club, has showcased immense faith in La Masia. The Barcelona academy has provided the first team with immense quality in recent years and has continued to do so for the German boss, in the form of Marc Bernal and Marc Casado among others.

It remains to be seen what Barcelona do in the January transfer window. They might look at a bargain deal for someone like Jonathan Tah, who they have been linked with. Apart from this, there is unlikely to be any new signings but only time will tell how it pans out.
