It was a tough evening for Amalie Vangsgaard's Denmark, who got off to the best possible start against Germany on Matchday two of Group C of the UEFA Women's EURO 2025: The Danish national team, who went into the game off the back of a 0-1 defeat in their tournament opener against Sweden, took an early lead thanks to a goal from the Bianconere forward, who made the most of Germany’s failure to clear the ball and beat the opposing goalkeeper with a right-footed strike at the near post.
The match, however, went in a completely different direction, as the statistics showed: 27 shots to 5 in favour of the Germans and 72% possession for Germany, whose dominance led to them reversing the result in the second half in the space of a handful of minutes. The scoreline quickly changed from 1-0 to 1-2, a result that condemned Denmark to elimination from the tournament - given the simultaneous success of Sweden who secured a 3-0 win against Poland, the next opponent of Vangsgaard's Denmark in their final, and now meaningless match of Group C.
England and the Netherlands are in action this afternoon, with newcomer Danielle de Jong between the sticks for the Dutch side in a match that could take her side one step closer to qualification and passage to the next round.
Pauline Peyraud-Magnin's side will face a similar challenge, with France, after beating England 2-1, hunting for a win against Wales in an effort to qualify for the quarter-finals.
