Het Nieuwsblad are reporting that Westerlo are considering a head coaching change ahead of the 2025/2026 campaign. Timmy Simons position appears to be under threat as it has emerged that some within the club think that they underperformed last season. Despite finishing second in play off two, the board reportedly expected more from this season. What else they could have wanted remains a mystery, as the only other place Westerlo could have finished was 7th or a very unlikely top six.
Simons joined the side last summer after guiding Dender to an unlikely promotion. During the 2024/2025 season he won 15 of the 43 games he was in charge of the club, losing 16 and drawing 12. The intention appears to be to have a meeting with Simons to discuss the vision he has for the club, which is said to be at odds with that of the board. Clearly, the board want the side pushing for the top six, yet from the outside this feels like a difficult task given the competition in the Pro League.
