West Ham defender Lucy Parker has revealed she bought tickets for two England matches before getting the call-up to be in the squad.

With fixtures against the United States and Czech Republic looming, Sarina Wiegman announced the Lionesses squad for the next international break.

Parker and Everton’s Jess Park both earned their first senior call-ups for England, while Fran Kirby, Chloe Kelly and Esme Morgan returned to the fold. Beth England, Lotte Wubben-Moy and Nikita Parris, all part of the Euro 2022-winning squad, were left out of the squad.

First call-up for Lucy Parker

It would have been an emotional moment for Parker, who has played for England from the under-15 to under 21-level.

But the 23-year-old would have also been left with a dilemma – what should she do with the tickets she bought for England’s matches against the US and Czech Republic?

Parker made the revelation in a video posted on Twitter by West Ham United Women.

While watching a news piece about Wiegman’s latest squad, Parker laughed: “I’ve got tickets to these games!”.

Who is Lucy Parker?

Parker spent 10 years in the academy ranks at Arsenal, before moving to the US to study in 2017.

She represented the LSU Tigers in Louisiana until 2018, before going on to play for the UCLA Bruins.

Parker moved back to England in 2021, signing her first professional contract with West Ham. She has made 24 appearances for the club since joining, and has particularly impressed in the opening matches of the Women’s Super League season.

She is only the second West Ham United Women’s player to be called up to the England team – Grace Fisk was previously selected for the 2020 SheBelieves Cup.

US and Czech Republic fixtures

The Lionesses will return to two venues synonymous with their Euro 2022 success next month.

They will first play against the US, the reigning world champions, at a sold-out Wembley on October 7th.

It will be the first time the two sides meet since the 2020 SheBelieves Cup, when the US triumphed 2-0.

On October 11th, England will meet the Czech Republic at the Amex Stadium in Brighton, where the Lionesses secured 8-0 and 2-1 victories against Norway and Spain respectively during Euro 2022.
