Jarrod Bowen certainly experienced an eventful evening during West Ham United vs Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.

In a match that saw two of the Premier League‘s most disappointing teams of the 2022/23 season lock horns, the Hammers reminded the world that they’re still a force to be reckoned with under David Moyes.

And despite Wolves proving a notoriously difficult team to break down with their watertight defence, the hosts found a way through Bruno Lage’s steely back line nonetheless.

West Ham and Bowen return to form

It came courtesy of summer signing Gianluca Scamacca who proved that his penchant for scoring screamers wasn’t just reserved for his Sassuolo days as he rattled home a ferocious strike.

And from there on out, the stage was set for Bowen to channel the 2021/22 form that had elevated him all the way to an England call-up and had hitherto abandoned him in recent months.

That’s because the thoroughly talented winger bagged West Ham’s second goal of the night with a fizzing left-footed strike that flashed past Jose Sa before he’d barely leapt into his dive.

It not only felt like a watershed moment for Moyes’ men in the context of their season, but a potential catalyst for Bowen to start finding his goalscoring form again.

However, that’s not to say that Bowen had everything his own way at the London Stadium because he also turned heads by way of suffering a rather unfortunate injury.

The broadcast footage showed Bowen looking distressed in the second-half having picked up what looked like a dislocation of the fourth finger on his right hand.

Injuries are, sadly, part and parcel of football, but it’s never nice to see a player evidently concerned about something that’s happened to their body during a game.

And that was most certainly the case with Bowen as his finger looked noticeably contorted out of its usual position, thus making for a sight that wasn’t for the faint-hearted amongst football fans watching on.

What happened?

Thankfully, Bowen was able to play on with a bandage applied to the finger in question.

As things stand, it remains unclear as to why and how Bowen’s finger was knocked out of shape, but the moment of realisation occurred not long after he had celebrated his first Premier League goal of the season.

According to The Sun, the 25-year-old’s smile turned to a grimace just moments after he was joined by delighted teammates Declan Rice and Kurt Zouma in celebrating his crucial strike.

For now, we can only take the fact that Bowen continued to play until the final whistle as an indication that his finger is in much better health now. We wish Jarrod all the best and hope that the injury isn’t too serious.
