Hammers under pressure after difficult start to the season
Lukasz Fabianski remains in goal for West Ham against Everton in the Premier League today.
The Hammers host the Toffees at the London Stadium on Saturday with pressure mounting on Lopetegui after securing just 11 points from his first 10 league games in charge of West Ham.
Alphonse Areola has been the club’s first-choice goalkeeper since the beginning of last season but was dropped after his part in an own goal against Tottenham three weeks ago and was then left out of the squad for last weekend’s 3-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest due to a minor knock.
Summer signing Niclas Fullkrug has played just 63 minutes of league action since joining the Hammers and remains out with an Achilles tendon injury which has seen complications delay his return.
“Fullkrug is out”, Lopetegui said on Thursday. “He is not ready. He is not working with us. I think he is going to be out for a lot more time, unfortunately. He will be out for the next two or three weeks.
“I am no doctor, I don’t know [how long until he is back]. He has a little injury and, step by step, it’s become more complicated. He will be out for the next two or three weeks, but I don’t know exactly. I don’t know what answer he is going to have with the treatment, so let us see.”
West Ham will be without Mohammed Kudus and Edson Alvarez against Everton due to both serving suspensions.
“We have the two players out with the red cards. And, after, we had two little issues, but we have to assess and check tomorrow if they are going to be able to arrive in the match.”
Tomas Soucek had a small illness last week but is understood to have now recovered.
West Ham starting XI (4-2-3-1): Fabianski; Wan-Bissaka, Todibo, Kilman, Emerson; Rodriguez, Soucek; Bowen, Paqueta, Summerville; Antonio
Subs: Foderingham, Cresswell, Soler, Coufal, Mavropanos, Guilherme, Ings, Irving, Scarles
Time and date: 3pm GMT, Saturday, November 9, 2024
