Liverpool will be hoping to tighten their grip at the top of the Premier League table when they take on West Ham at the London Stadium on Wednesday night.
A weakened Liverpool side blew a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Shrewsbury Town in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon meaning they’ll have to navigate a replay at Anfield to book a date at Chelsea in the fifth round.
It was a rare slip by an otherwise rampant Liverpool team who have been virtually faultless in the league so far this campaign as they extended their unbeaten run to 40 games with a 2-1 win at Wolves last Thursday.
The result at Molineux has left Jurgen Klopp’s men sitting 16 points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table and they can extend that advantage to a staggering 19 points if they win their game in hand at West Ham tomorrow night.
However, the Hammers won’t make life easy for the Merseysiders as they’re in desperate need of a positive result with David Moyes’ men currently level on points with second from bottom Watford so they need a win to move away from the relegation zone.
Team news
Liverpool will be without Sadio Mane as he’s been ruled out with a thigh strain while James Milner is also set to miss the trip to London with an on-going hamstring issue that’s kept him out recently.
Xherdan Shaqiri is nursing a calf problem so the Swiss international is not expected to feature tomorrow but Adam Lallana could return after missing the last two games due to illness.
Klopp is set to recall his big guns so we should see the likes of Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson, Jordan Henderson, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino come back into the starting eleven after being rested at Shrewsbury.
West Ham could welcome Lukasz Fabianski back into the squad but they still have a lengthy injury list to contend with as Felipe Anderson, Ryan Fredericks, Andriy Yarmolenko and Jack Wilshere are all out while Robert Snodgrass and Arthur Masuaku are doubts.
How to watch
The match will take place at the London Stadium, kicking off at 7.45 pm [UK time] on Wednesday night. Unfortunately, the game won’t be broadcast live on Sky Sports or BT Sport so fans are going to have to be creative if they want to tune in. Luckily, the game is available to live stream on betpal so supporters will be able to follow all the action from home if they aren’t going to the match.
Prediction
The Reds were held to a 1-1 draw in this fixture last season and no doubt David Moyes will be keen to halt the Liverpool juggernaut tomorrow night as West Ham are fighting for their lives at the wrong end of the table. However, Liverpool are in formidable form and they just aren’t letting up, despite holding an unassailable lead at the top of the table. Therefore, we just can’t see Klopp’s side slipping up here so it looks like another three points in the bag for Liverpool as they storm their way to the title.
