TEAM NEWS

Pep Guardiola says he will hand City’s youngsters another chance to shine.

The competition has provided a platform for our Academy players to showcase their talents over the years – evident in September’s victory over Wycombe Wanderers.

Securing progression with a 6-1 win, City fielded six teenagers for their first-team debuts, while Cole Palmer grabbed his first senior goal for the Club, extending our proud record of affording youth a chance in the tournament.

Speaking after Saturday night’s 4-1 win at Brighton and Hove Albion, in which Academy graduate and lifelong City fan Phil Foden starred with two goals and an assist, Guardiola looked ahead to our clash with the Hammers.

Although he admitted he may field a more experienced line-up against Premier League opposition, he confirmed there will be some of our youngsters included.

PEP GUARDIOLA PREVIEW

“The League Cup is a tournament in this country and we have done quite well.

“We won it for the fourth time in a row and still we are there.

“We know which team we are going to face – West Ham away – so it is not an easy one.

“At the same time, we are going to prepare to try to win the game like we do any game in any competition.”

FORM GUIDE

City are chasing what would be an historic fifth consecutive Carabao Cup triumph.

Tuesday marks five years since we were last eliminated from the competition, having lost just once since in a two-legged semi-final tie we edged on aggregate against Manchester United.

We head into the encounter having lost just one of our last twelve games in all competitions and have triumphed in three of our last five, winning our last three in a row.

Since their triumph at Old Trafford in Round Three, West Ham have won six of their last seven - most recently Sunday's 1-0 home victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

LAST TIME OUT

All the hallmarks of Pep Guardiola’s tenure were on display, with intense hard-work and tenacity coupled with outstanding attacking quality.

First-half goals from Ilkay Gundogan and two from Phil Foden put City in total control.

An Alexis Mac Allister penalty with 10 minutes remaining cut the arrears, but Riyad Mahrez's expert finish in injury time sealed a ninth win in our last 12 matches across all competition (W9, D2, L1).

Stats

City have won 10 of our last 11 meetings with West Ham in all competitions (D1), netting 33 goals.

● We have defeated the Hammers in both of our previous League Cup ties - a third round replay 2-1 in 1984/85 and a 9-0 aggregate triumph in the 2013/14 semi-final.

Pep Guardiola's men have progressed from/won each of our last 21 League Cup ties, with only Liverpool having a longer such run in the competition (25 between 1980 and 1984). We have progressed from nine of our last 11 fourth round ties and are unbeaten in each of our last 12 away League Cup matches (excluding neutral venues), winning 10 and drawing two (winning on penalties in both draws).

● Including winning the trophy on four occasions during Guardiola’s time with the Club, City have scored more goals in the League Cup than any other team since the start of 2016/17 (61) – 19 more than any other side.

● West Ham have won two of their last three League Cup ties against the holders of the competition, eliminating Oxford United in 1986/87, and Manchester United in 2010/11. The Hammers are looking to become just the second side to eliminate both Manchester clubs in the same League Cup campaign, after Arsenal in 1977/78.

● Phil Foden has been directly involved in nine goals in his last seven starts in the League Cup, scoring three and assisting six.
