West Ham United defender Hawa Cissoko and Everton midfielder Kenza Dali have been selected by French head coach Corinne Diacre for the nation’s FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia New Zealand 2023 qualifying matches against Estonia and Kazakhstan later this month.

Les Bleues take on Estonia in Créteil on Friday 22 October before travelling to Nur-Sultan to face Kazakhstan on Tuesday 26 October.

French head coach Diacre has selected 24 players for this month’s squad with Barclays FA Women’s Super League stars Cissoko and Dali making the cut. Cissoko’s defensive qualities have really helped West Ham United take positive strides forward so far this season while Dali has slotted into the Everton midfield with ease after joining the club from The Hammers in the summer.

France defeated Greece and Slovenia in their opening two FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia New Zealand 2023 qualifiers last month, scoring 13 goals in the process. Big winning scorelines will be expected from this month’s games against Estonia and Kazakhstan.

France have participated in 11 major tournament finals in their history but they hold the unwanted record of having never won one. Their best records came at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Germany 2011 and at the London Olympics in 2012 but they could only finish fourth on both occasions.
