In a recent tweet, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that West Ham United winger Said Benrahma is set to join Olympique Lyonnais after FIFA approved the French club’s request for the TMF to be validated. It has been revealed that the FA have sent their validation request to FFF so that the Algerian talent can complete his move away from the Hammers.

Benrahma’s Lack Of First Team Starts At West Ham This Season

Benrahma has struggled to catch the eye with his performances at the London Stadium during this campaign and has often had to settle for a spot on David Moyes’ bench. The Algerian sensation has featured in 22 matches for West Ham this season, picking up one assist in the process across all fronts.

The 28-year-old has seen a lot of game time come off the bench but deserves some credit for averaging 1.5 shots, 0.8 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even distributed possession relatively well after completing 79.8% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).

Benrahma has proved himself to be a decent presence in the final third but has struggled to be productive in front of the opponent’s goal. Thus, it makes sense for the player to seal a move to a club like Lyon in search of more playing opportunities in the coming years.

Benrahma is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few driving runs with the ball out in the wide areas. He can create some decent openings for others around him in the attacking end of the field.

The Algerian talent can even shoot the ball with power from long range. However, he has to find a way to be more decisive in front of the opponent’s goal. Benrahma is versatile enough to play anywhere across the frontline and could be a real asset at Lyon.

Therefore, it seems like the Algerian’s move away from West Ham would be a good move for everyone involved. The Hammers can now finally move on and concentrate on having a solid second half to this Premier League campaign.
