The Hammers announced the news this afternoon via a post on their official club website. Atkinson moves to The Chigwell Construction Stadium after spending the last 15 months north of the border.
The 20-year-old joined The Hoops in February 2021 where she competed at the top end of the Scottish game. Atkinson has made a name for herself in Scotland as a big game player having scored the winning goal in the Scottish Women’s FA Cup final as Celtic defeated Glasgow City 3-2. The nippy youngster can play as either a full-back or a winger and she will be hoping to have a similar impact in the claret and blue of West Ham United.
News of Atkinson’s move has been announced just two days before her 21st birthday and what better present than arriving in the Barclays Women’s Super League. Atkinson follows former Manchester United defender Kirsty Smith in moving to the East Londoners this afternoon.
West Ham United are coming off the back of their best season in the top division after finishing in a very respectable sixth place. However, following head coach Olli Harder’s departure and Paul Konchesky stepping up to take over the managerial reigns, it is a real time of uncertainty for The Irons just when they looked to be heading in the right direction. The new arrivals could signal a new look West Ham United side for the 2022/2023 season and they are certainly ones to keep an eye on.
