In a recent interview with Caughtoffside, journalist Christian Falk revealed that West Ham United are set to rival Everton for Union Berlin forward Sheraldo Becker. Falk said,

“Both West Ham and Everton are interested in Sheraldo Becker. We’ve just had it confirmed that Union received a concrete offer on Monday, though it’s not immediately clear which of the two submitted it.

“Union, however, now have a chance to potentially secure Champions League football next year and they’re still in the cup, so that’s why they were reluctant to sell Sheraldo.

“But in the summer they know they could lose him. He’s got a contract that runs until 2025. I could imagine seeing him switch to the Premier League in the summer.”

Becker has been a consistent performer for Union Berlin in the final third as he has put in a run of impressive displays as the focal point of their attack. The 27-year-old has found the back of the net eight times and secured seven assists in 28 appearances for the German club this season across all competitions.

The Amsterdam-born talent has given a good account of himself by averaging 1.7 shots, 1.2 crosses and 1.4 key passes per game in Bundesliga. However, he needs to work on improving his ball distribution deep inside the opponent’s half after making 63.6% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).

Is Becker A Good Choice For West Ham United Boss David Moyes?

Becker is proficient at engineering space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He has got the vision to orchestrate some meaningful chances for his teammates in the final third. The Suriname international has contributed by scoring and creating his fair share of goals up top. However, as mentioned earlier, he has to find a way to improve his passing accuracy if he wants to become a future star at the highest level.

At the moment, Becker is playing some of the best football of his career. We can expect him to add a lot of firepower to David Moyes‘ attack at the London Stadium.

Becker has what it takes to challenge for a regular starting spot at West Ham and could even help the East London club push for a European place in the Premier League over the next few years. All in all, the Union Berlin star would be a decent choice for the Hammers to pursue next summer.
