The 18-year-old performed exceptionally well in the central areas of the pitch often creating chances for his teammates in front of the goal and getting past defenders with excellent ball control. His productive performances on the attacking end of the field caught the eye of David Moyes who believed he had a bright future at West Ham.

How Does It Impact West Ham United And Its Youth Academy?

West Ham United have recurrently invested in their infrastructure and also made hefty investments in the health facility at their academy in order to help the youngsters to further develop in their respective areas. If a youngster decides to move away in such a manner, then it directly impacts the finances as they won’t be receiving a justified amount through compensation alone. It also affects the overall mood of the remaining academy players which takes time to settle. The West Ham academy has had a long list of alumni namely Frank Lampard, Rio Ferdinand, John Terry and many more including the likes of Declan Rice. It comes as a huge blow when a future prospect decides to move away after being offered a professional contract.

Undoubtedly, Sonny Perkins could have had a bright future at the London Stadium after climbing through the lower ranks quickly, impressing everyone who showed interest in the lad. The club could have received more than they would from compensation if they had sold him instead. The unfortunate turn of events leaves West Ham furious and unsettled as they lose a prospect in such a manner. This only goes on to prove that the Youth Academy has to be paid close attention in the same way as the first-team squad.
