West Ham United midfielder Tameka Yallop admitted that she was disappointed not to cap her 100th appearance for Australia with a win.

Yallop played the full 90 minutes as the Commonwealth Bank Matildas suffered a 3-0 international friendly defeat to world champions the United States in Sydney this morning,

The midfielder collected her 100th cap for Australia in the match but she was unable to help her side avoid a heavy defeat. When speaking after the match, Yallop said that she was gutted not to mark the occasion with a win.

“I’m gutted that we didn’t get the win,” Yallop said. “It was really exciting playing in this stadium in-front of so many fans.

“We are leading into 2023 and to have a crowd like that today was really awesome.”

The two sides meet again in a second international friendly in Newcastle on Tuesday and Yallop said that Australia must look to be more clinical in the opposition box in that game.

She added “We need to look to be more clinical with our finishing.

“I thought that we got stuck in today, we played really well and had a lot of possession but I think that moving forward, we just need to be more clinical.”

Yallop has been a regular in the Australia senior squad for the last 14 years. She won the AFC Women’s Asian Cup in 2010 and has represented her country at various FIFA Women’s World Cups along with the Olympic Games.
