In a recent report, Il Messaggero mentioned that West Ham United are locked in a three-way battle for AS Roma ace Nicola Zalewski. It has been claimed that the Hammers are eyeing a move to secure the services of the Polish wide player this summer.

Zalewski’s Impressive Run Of Form In European Football

Zalewski has enjoyed a decent campaign at Rome as he managed to earn a lot of game time for Jose Mourinho’s side. The 21-year-old registered two goals and one assist in 47 matches for the Italian club last season in all competitions.

The Polish talent caught the eye with his performances in Europe based on his average of 1.3 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, 0.6 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in the UEFA Europa League. He has even been tidy with his ball distribution after making 79.1% of his attempted passes in European football (stats via whoscored).

His current deal at the Italian club is set to expire in the summer of 2025. Thus, it would be difficult for the Hammers to recruit him on a cut-price deal in this off-season.

Is Zalewski A Decent Choice For West Ham United Boss David Moyes?

Zalewski is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to make some timely interceptions for his team. He can create some decent openings for others around him and can make a few clever runs with the ball out on the flanks.

The Polish youngster is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also function on the right wing if asked to do so. However, there are some question marks over whether he would be able to handle the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football if the Hammers manage to win the race for his services.

We can expect Zalewski to bring more energy and dynamism to West Ham head coach David Moyes’ match-day squad. He might even help the Hammers compete across all fronts in the coming seasons.

Thus, Zalewski could prove to be a great choice for the East London club to pursue during this summer transfer window. At 21, the future is quite bright for the Polish sensation as long as he continues to develop his all-around game with each season.
