West Ham United have put forward inconsistent performances in the last few seasons. They had a strong presence in European competitions a few years ago, but there is now a lack of stability in the league. The team lost the lead in many big matches, and on some occasions lost points even after coming close to victory. In such a situation, the club have taken many important decisions while preparing for the new season in 2025/26. Since the appointment of Graham Potter, a change in strategy and player selection is visible.
West Ham United were looking for a permanent solution to the goalkeeper position for a long time. This need increased further after the departure of Lukasz Fabianski. The club management knew that they were looking for a player who could stay calm under pressure and give a strong base to the defence. The market of rumours was hot, but the club were clear about the target

According to a BBC report, West Ham United have reached an agreement with Leicester City to sign Mads Hermansen. The deal is said to be worth around £20 million. The 25-year-old Danish goalkeeper started his career with Brondby IF and joined Leicester City in 2023. His performance in the Championship was excellent, and he played an important role in getting the team promoted. Although he could not save the team in the Premier League, there was no question about his ability.
Casper Ankergren, who has previously worked with Hermansen at Brondby, is now West Ham’s goalkeeping coach and is believed to have played a big role in this deal. Hermansen is known for his fast reflexes under pressure and excellent shot-stopping abilities.
In our opinion, this is a smart signing for West Ham. The team have long been looking for a goalkeeper who can not only save goals but also organise the defence. Hermansen’s experience will give them a chance to make a comeback in the Premier League. Potter’s strategy will, of course, require a reliable goalkeeper, and Hermansen fits that role for a club like the Hammers. If the defence syncs with him, West Ham could have a better season than previous ones. This deal also makes the club’s direction clear—they are now focused on stability and long-term success.
