In a recent report, Tuttosport revealed that West Ham United are facing stiff competition for Spezia Calcio defender Jakub Kiwior. It has been claimed that the Hammers will have to rival Juventus, Napoli and AC Milan in the race to land the Polish centre-back.

Kiwior’s Impressive Form For Both Club And Country This Season

Kiwior is having a solid campaign in Italian football as he has managed to put in a few dominant displays on the defensive third of the pitch. The 22-year-old has been involved in 23 matches for both his club and country this season across various competitions.

The Polish talent has been a rock at the back after he averaged 1.1 tackles, 1.5 interceptions and 3.7 clearances per game in Serie A. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from the back as he has completed 85.9% of his attempted passes in the Italian top-flight (stats via whoscored).

Kiwior’s current contract at Spezia Calcio is set to run out in the summer of 2025. Therefore, West Ham will have to make a sizable offer if they are serious about recruiting the Polish defensive ace next year.

Is Kiwior The Right Fit For West Ham United Head Coach David Moyes?

Kiwior is a solid tackler of the ball and can make a few timely interceptions for his side inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and is proficient at playing his way out from the back.

Standing at 1.89m, Kiwior can use his strong frame to win his fair share of aerial duels as well. He is currently making his nation proud in the 2022 FIFA World Cup which is being held in Qatar.

Someone of Kiwior’s skillset will no doubt enhance the overall quality of West Ham’s backline. He will add more bite and steel to David Moyes’ defence and could help the Hammers become more consistent in terms of picking up favourable results in the Premier League.

At 22, Kiwior has got his best years ahead of him which makes him a good fit for the East London club in the long run. However, there are some concerns over whether he would be able to cope with the physical nature and high intensity of Premier League football. Still, the pros outweigh the cons of signing a defender of Kiwior’s quality and potential as Moyes could nurture him into a future star at the London Stadium.
