In a recent interview with Meczyki, West Ham United custodian Lukasz Fabianski revealed that he is open to extending his contract at the London Stadium. The Polish keeper said,

“From what I know, there have been some initial discussions already taking place. I hope that we will come to a good solution for both sides. I do not see any reasons for it to be otherwise, since the club and I are happy with this cooperation.

“That’s right. It’s not just West Ham’s policy that footballers of a certain age extend from season to season. This is actually a logical solution for many reasons.

“Of course, the most important thing in all this is health and sports level. If I can manage these aspects, I see no problem in extending the contract.”

Fabianski’s Impressive Form At The English Capital This Season

Fabianski has enjoyed a decent run of form for the Hammers this season after managing to get more first-team opportunities than Alphonse Areola thus far. The 36-year-old has shipped in 10 goals and secured four clean sheets in ten appearances for West Ham United in this campaign across all competitions.

The former Arsenal keeper has been a solid presence at the back as he is averaging 0.4 clearances and 3.7 long balls per game in Premier League football. However, Fabianski needs to take care of the ball a bit better when distributing possession from inside his penalty box, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 60.5% in the English first division (stats via whoscored).

Should West Ham United Retain Fabianski’s Services?

Fabianski can be a safe pair of hands in the Hammers goal when he is playing regularly and with confidence on the field. He boasts decent reflexes that help him pull off a few important saves at the back. The experienced goalkeeper can even come out of his penalty box to clear the danger every now and then.

The Poland international is also a solid handler of the ball but needs to be more accurate with his passing if he wants to stay as David Moyes‘ number one goalkeeping option in the coming seasons.

At 36, Fabianski has only got a handful of years left in him to play at the highest level. Thus, Moyes should think about retaining his services for at least another year. as the Polish veteran deserves a new contract based on his excellent contributions at the London Stadium this season.
