In a recent report, Sky Germany stated that West Ham United are showing interest in Bayer 04 Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah this summer. It has been claimed that the Hammers have launched an inquiry for the German centre-back ahead of a potential move in this off-season.

Tah’s Decent Run Of Form In German Football

Tah managed to put in a series of solid performances at the heart of Leverkusen’s backline during this campaign. The 27-year-old has scored one goal in 47 appearances for the German outfit this season across all competitions.

The German sensation has given a good account of himself on the defensive third of the pitch as he is averaging 0.8 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 3.5 clearances per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. He has even been excellent when distributing the ball from the back after making 89.1% of his attempted passes in the top tier of German football (stats via whoscored).

Tah is under contract at Leverkusen until the summer of 2025. Thus, the Hammers will have to make a sizable offer if they want to recruit the German defensive ace in the upcoming transfer window.

Is Tah A Decent Choice For West Ham United Boss David Moyes?

Tah loves a tackle and can sense the danger quickly to earn the ball back for his team on the defensive third of the pitch. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the front foot and is also proficient at playing his way out from the back.

Standing at 1.95m, the German talent is a dominant presence in the air as well. Hence, a centre-back of his skillset will undoubtedly be a great acquisition for West Ham this summer.

Tah has what it takes to inject more bite and steel into David Moyes’ defence. At 27, he is about to enter his prime and would be an excellent choice for the Hammers to consider during the summer transfer window.

Tah could help the East London club push for European football once again next season but it remains to be seen whether he can cope with the physical nature and high intensity of Premier League football if Moyes can find a way to bring him on board when the transfer window reopens later this month.
