According to a report in Fichajes, West Ham United have stepped up their efforts to sign Barcelona’s young defensive midfielder Marc Casado. The East London club have started talks with the Catalan club and are reportedly ready to make an official offer in the coming days. Chelsea are also showing interest in the Spaniard, but have so far failed to take any concrete steps. That is why West Ham are currently considered to be at the forefront of this race.
Casado joined Barcelona’s academy in 2016 and became part of the first team last season. Hansi Flick gave him consistent opportunities in the early months as Frenkie de Jong was struggling with injury and poor form. The defensive midfielder played 36 matches and contributed to seven goals, as well as spent more than 2400 minutes on the field.
Now that the Dutchman has returned to full fitness and form, the 21-year-old Spaniard has fallen a little behind in the pecking order, but he still plays an important role in Flick’s plans. West Ham are willing to bid around €30 million as per the report, which could be a significant amount for Barcelona as the club are facing a financial crisis, and still need to sell players. This could force the Spanish giants to sell their talented player.

The question now is whether Marc Casado would be the right signing for West Ham. From the looks of it, the answer appears to be positive. He plays in the defensive midfield position, and his biggest strength is his ability to recover the ball quickly and control the tempo of the game. The West Ham manager Graham Potter needs stability in midfield, and Casado brings that profile, who can serve as the defensive shield ahead of the backline.
He is only 21 years old, which means the club can benefit from him for a long time. Chelsea may be interested, but if West Ham bring him in now, it would be a huge investment in the club’s future. He has the perfect balance of experience and youthful energy, which could make an immediate impact in the Premier League. In our opinion, if this deal goes through, it will be extremely beneficial for the Hammers as they will get a player who will be a consistent part of their midfield in the coming years.
