In a recent report, The Evening Standard stated that West Ham United are monitoring the situation of Manchester City ace Kalvin Phillips. It has been claimed that the Hammers have identified the English talent as a target for the upcoming transfer window.

Phillips’ Lack Of Game Time At The Etihad Stadium This Season

Phillips has played a sporadic role in Pep Guardiola’s match-day squad this season as he has struggled to fight for a regular starting spot in the Premier League. The former Leeds United talent has only made 21 appearances for the Mancunian club during this campaign across various competitions.

The English midfield ace has seen most of his game time come off the bench which explains why he is only averaging 0.5 tackles, 0.4 interceptions and 0.7 clearances per game in Premier League football. However, he deserves credit for being tidy with his ball distribution after completing 92.6% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at the Etihad Stadium will run out in the summer of 2028. Therefore, West Ham might find it difficult to arrange a move for him on the cheap in this off-season.

Will Phillips Be A Good Signing For West Ham United Boss David Moyes?

Phillips is a tough-tackling midfielder who can scan the danger well to earn the ball back for his team in the middle of the park. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when needed and is a good passer of the ball as well.

The English sensation has got the vision to make some decent plays for others around him in the opponent’s half but needs to find a way to improve his productivity going forward.

Phillips will no doubt be a welcome signing for the Hammers as they need to add more quality to their first team. He might even serve as a good replacement for Declan Rice who is facing an uncertain future at the London Stadium.

We can expect Phillips to add more bite and steel to West Ham boss David Moyes. He could even help the East London giants challenge for European football in the coming seasons. Therefore, Moyes should focus on making a move to bring Phillips on board soon.
