According to a report from Birmingham Live, West Ham United are in pole position to sign Joaquin Correa of Inter Milan at the end of this season. However, it was also mentioned that Aston Villa could challenge the Hammers in the race to get the Argentina international’s signature.

Correa’s Disappointing Campaign With Inter Milan So Far This Season

The Argentine attacker has not fared well up until now, as he has failed to be productive for the Italian outfit. He has only managed to find the back of the net thrice and created three assists over twenty-five appearances across all fronts.

The 28-year-old has failed to live up to the expectations based on his average of 0.6 shots, 0.3 key passes and 0.1 dribbles per game in the Serie A. He also needs to work on his ball distribution after only completing 75% of his attempted passes in the Italian top flight (stats via whoscored).

His contract at the San Siro stadium lasts until the summer of 2025. However, the Italian giants have declared that they are ready to sanction his exit under favourable terms.

Should David Moyes Bring Him To West Ham United?

Correa possesses excellent dribbling skills and is known for his ability to take on defenders with ease. He has the ability to set up his teammates with some clear-cut goal-scoring opportunities. The Argentine is comfortable with the ball at his feet and has excellent close control. Furthermore, Correa is also a physical player who is not afraid to put in a tackle or track back to help out his team defensively.

He is known for his versatility, as he can play in multiple positions, including on the wing or as a central attacking midfielder. Even though he has not fared well so far in his campaign for Inter Milan, it is purely because he mostly came off the bench as an impact substitute. If given enough game time on the pitch, Correa can definitely add more creativity and firepower to the attacking department at the London Stadium.

He could prove to be a shrewd acquisition, as the Italian club are also facing financial troubles, which has forced them to offload a few players this summer. David Moyes could make an interesting proposition to convince Correa to join them, more so if he can guarantee him a regular starting position. Although, if the Villans are serious about recruiting Correa, then the chances of the Hammers securing his signature would be fairly low, considering their relegation situation.
