In a recent report, The Sun mentioned that West Ham United are among the clubs hoping to sign Brentford forward Ivan Toney. It is believed that the Hammers are locked in a three-way battle with Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea in the race to recruit the English striker this summer.

Toney’s Recent Form In The Premier League

Toney has enjoyed a good run of form at Brentford of late after he produced some productive displays as the focal point of their attack. The English striker has banged in four goals in ten appearances for the Bees following a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to suspension.

The 28-year-old has given a good account of himself up top as he is averaging 2.8 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. However, he needs to improve his ball distribution in the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 53.8% in the English first division (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at the English club will run out in the summer of 2025 which could open the door for West Ham to land him on a cut-price deal at the end of this season.

Should West Ham United Boss David Moyes Snap Toney Up?

Toney is a solid tackler of the ball and can lead the press well for Brentford in the opponent’s half. He excels at creating a yard of space for himself to get some shots in at goal. The English sensation can be a decent finisher in front of the opposition goal and can engineer the odd chance for his teammates in the final third.

We can expect Toney to inject more firepower into West Ham head coach David Moyes’ frontline. He has what it takes to serve as an ideal replacement for Michail Antonio if the East London club decide to part ways with their star forward this summer.

At 28, Toney is playing some of the best football of his career at the moment. Hence, the Hammers would do well to bring him on board later this year. He already knows the Premier League well and won’t take much time to settle into life at the London Stadium, so Moyes should focus on snapping him up in the summer transfer window.
