In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey mentioned that West Ham United are among the clubs hoping to sign Bayer 04 Leverkusen ace Jonathan Tah. It has been claimed that the Hammers are keeping tabs on the German central defender this summer.

Tah’s Good Run Of Form In German Football

Tah has enjoyed a solid campaign at the German club after putting in a series of impressive displays for them on the defensive third of the pitch. The 28-year-old has featured in 33 matches for Leverkusen this season, scoring six goals in various competitions.

The German centre-half has been a decent performer inside his half based on his average of 0.8 tackles, 0.5 interceptions and 3.3 clearances per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. He has even been careful when distributing possession from the back after completing 94.9% of his attempted passes in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at the German club will run out at the end of next season. Therefore, West Ham could potentially land him on a cut-price deal in the summer.

Is Tah A Decent Fit For West Ham United?

Tah is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the offensive and is even proficient at playing his way out from the back. Standing at 1.95m, the German defensive ace is a strong presence in the air as well.

We can expect Tah to bring more bite and steel to West Ham‘s backline and help the Hammers compete across all competitions in the coming years. At the moment, he is enjoying his football at the German club. Thus, the East London club would be wise to engineer a move to bring him to the London Stadium as he could help them push for European football once again over the next few seasons.

At 28, Tah has entered his prime which makes him a good fit for West Ham‘s needs right now. However, only time will tell whether he can cope with the high intensity of Premier League football if the Hammers manage to bring him on board in the summer transfer period.
