Frank McAvennie insists Adam Armstrong will leave Blackburn this summer and told West Ham to sign him.
The former Hammer, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims it is a matter of when, not if, when it comes to the Blackburn striker’s future.
On Tuesday (15th June), Football Insider revealed Southampton and Norwich lead the race for Armstrong.
It is said that Blackburn are holding out for £15million as clubs look to swoop for Armstrong.
As revealed by Football Insider, Rovers are also lining up a move for Blackpool striker Jerry Yates to replace their star man.
Armstrong, 24, scored 28 goals as Rovers finished 15th in the Championship last season.
McAvennie has heard from someone at Blackburn that the club are expecting Armstrong to move to the Premier League this summer.
“I know his understudy at Blackburn, Connor McBride,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“He’s been scoring a lot of goals in the Premier League 2 and Tony Mowbray rates him highly.
“From what I hear at Blackburn in general, it’s just a matter of who Armstrong goes to. He is going to move, he’s better than Blackburn.
“He can make that jump to the Premier League. I want him at West Ham. He could play with or instead of Antonio.
“He needs that Premier League chance, look at Jarrod Bowen, look at Bamford. There is talent in the Championship.
“I really hope West Ham go in for him. Blackburn already have a ready-made replacement in McBride.”
McBride, 20, scored 12 goals and picked up six assists in the Premier League 2 last season.
Armstrong finished the season in fine form, netting seven goals in his last three games.
