The German joined the club in the summer of 2023 to lead the club’s recruitment strategy and scouting but has failed to live up to expectations..

Steiden endured a strained relationship with both managers during the bulk of his tenure. His relationship with David Moyes ended with being told to stay away from the manager and his first-team squad for the final weeks of last season.

Steiden’s relationship with Julen Lopetegui was similarly tense and he was again absent from the training ground leading up to the Spaniard’s exit, returning once Graham Potter was appointed.

Potter has since brought in his trusted transfer guru Kyle Macaulay as head of recruitment, with whom he worked with at Ostersund, Swansea, Brighton and Chelsea.

It is reported by The Athletic that Steidten will be leaving his role and that the terms of his departure are being finalised.

While Steidten was responsible for the signing of Mohammed Kudus, a key player for the Hammers, the recruitment of others such as Luis Guilherme, Niclas Fullkrug and Guido Rodriguez have been criticised both internally and externally.

Asked during his press conference on Friday whether Steidten was leaving the club, Potter declined to explain the situation, saying: “Nothing to report, for me.”

Speaking about Macaulay’s arrival from Chelsea, for which a consideration compensation fee was paid, Potter said: “Kyle is in. Kyle has been part of my staff for however many years I’ve been coaching. I’m really happy with that appointment. It was something that was always going to happen. It was just a case of when.

“He’s head of recruitment, just to provide a link between the club and myself. Recruitment is about having lots of conversations. To have someone like Kyle to help with that is going to be great for us and great for me.”
