Ngal’ayel Mukau (20) was taken off on a stretcher midway through Lille OSC’s 1-0 win over AS Monaco on Sunday night. It was a concerning sight for LOSC, who are counting on Mukau being a key player this season. It was also a worrying sight for some of his high-profile suitors, notably West Ham United.

The midfielder is a target for the Hammers, as per Sacha Tavolieri. However, he suffered an ankle injury over the weekend, as confirmed by Bruno Genesio. Mukau underwent tests on Monday. The results were positive, L’Équipe understands. The MRI have revealed a simple sprain. There had been fears of a more serious injury, given that he was stretchered off and also suffered from ankle issues last season.

It is good news for Lille, who are determined not to lose the player. Their reticence to lose the Congolese player is a blow to West Ham, who are looking to strengthen their midfield. Speaking on Friday, LOSC president Olivier Létang set the price tag for Mukau and Alexsandro at €70m, a figure that many clubs – if not all clubs – will be unwilling to pay, at least this summer.
