West Ham have reportedly made a move for Monaco midfielder Soungoutou Magassa, according to a report by The Guardian.

The 21-year-old Frenchman is emerging as a key target as the Hammers look to strengthen their midfield options.

Graham Potter is eager to refresh his squad in the middle of the park. This comes amid uncertainty surrounding Edson Alvarez, who is close to joining Fenerbahçe.

The club has also seen Mohammed Kudus leave for Tottenham Hotspur, which adds to their midfield concerns.

The Hammers’ recent defeat, a 3-0 loss, further underlined their urgent need for reinforcements before the transfer window closes.

Potter aims to bring in at least two midfield players to address these gaps and add balance to the team.

Magassa’s profile and why West Ham want him

Magassa has built a strong reputation as a defensive midfielder with the ability to dictate play from deep positions.

He featured in 29 matches for Monaco across all competitions last season and also represented France Under-21s at this summer’s European Championship.

The Hammers see him as an ideal fit for the holding role, offering both strength and composure. His versatility is another advantage, as he can also operate as a left-sided central defender.

The youngster is known for winning tackles and moving the ball quickly to keep the game flowing. He is comfortable using either foot and has shown strong technical passing ability.

However, he can be aggressive in challenges, which sometimes leads to fouls in dangerous areas.

Despite this, Magassa is viewed as a player who can develop into a modern defensive midfielder with a high work rate.

His adaptability to the physical demands of the Premier League will be key, but West Ham believe his energy and intelligence make him a strong addition.

Potter is not only focusing on Magassa. Reports suggest that the manager is also keen on adding a box-to-box midfielder, with Southampton’s Mateus Fernandes among the names under consideration.

The priority remains clear: inject youth, energy, and depth into West Ham’s midfield before the window closes.
