West Ham United are looking for freshness in their squad for the upcoming season. After an inconsistent campaign and a 2024/25 season in which the spark was extinguished at times, the Londoners face a crucial summer.

The return of Carlos Soler to PSG after a loan spell to forget and the uncertain status of Guido Rodríguez and Tomáš Souček have left gaps to fill. With Graham Potter at the helm, the mission is clear and that is to revamp the midfield with intelligence and ambition. In that scenario, the name of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is a constant buzz around the London Stadium.

Everton are also in a period of transition. Their constant battle against relegation in recent years has taken its toll. David Moyes has brought order, but the team needs more talent on the ball. Lack of creativity has been a glaring problem. That’s why both West Ham and the Toffees are looking in the same place for solutions.

Dewsbury-Hall back on West Ham radar

According to The Sun, Everton and West Ham are not giving up and are keeping an eye on Dewsbury-Hall’s situation. Both clubs tried to sign him in the winter, seeking a loan deal with a buy-out clause. Although the move fell through, the interest is not dead. Chelsea are asking for £30m to let the midfielder go, a figure that is currently holding up the deal. However, if the Blues drop their demands, West Ham are ready to pounce again.

The 26-year-old Englishman is coming off the back of five goals and four assists in 36 games in the 2024/25 season. The midfielder has got the work-rate, vision, and the ability to break lines, either by driving forward or passing forward. Although he has hardly played any minutes for Chelsea, his talent is still intact. The Englishman can play inside or from the deep areas. Potter knows him and values that kind of profile.

Would he fit into Graham Potter’s project?

Dewsbury-Hall seems to fit Potter’s style. The manager wants a West Ham side that has the ball, combines well between the players, thinks intelligently and constantly attack. The former Leicester man fits that mould. He is good with the ball at his feet, possesses vision and physicality. The 26-year-old can step into the opposition box, help in pressing and generate from the middle, and, most importantly, he is hungry. After a near-miss year at Stamford Bridge, he needs to feel important again.

The big but is the price. 30 million for a player who has only played 55 minutes of Premier League football last season sounds exaggerated. If West Ham could get a loan with an option to buy, the deal would make a lot more sense. It would be a way to try without taking risks. With Paqueta on the back foot and Rodriguez uncertain, the Hammers need reliable alternatives. Dewsbury-Hall could be that missing spark, but only if the context is right. Potter will know whether to gamble.
