Graham Potter has endured an incredibly difficult start to his reign at the Hammers, winning just one of his six matches in charge.
West Ham were expected to pick up maximum points in front of their home crowd against the Bees, who have been in patchy form over the past few months.
However, the Irons conceded a goal within the opening four minutes, with Kevin Schade racing clear to score at his second attempt after Alphonse Areola denied him the first time.
West Ham were fortunate to only be a goal down at the break as Thomas Frank’s side twice came very close to doubling their advantage.
The hosts improved in the second-half but couldn’t find an equaliser as Brentford held on to claim all three points.
It was a collective failure, but there were some particularly poor performances.
In our view, Mohammed Kudus was the worst performer for West Ham in Saturday’s defeat.
The 24-year-old continually gave the ball away and offered almost nothing going forward.
He had 60 touches in the game, but failed to contribute any goal, assist or a key pass.
The winger attempted six crosses but couldn’t complete any of them. He also lost the ball an incredible 16 times and failed to win any of his aerial duels.
Kudus is one of the most important players for West Ham, with the Ghanaian starting 20 Premier League matches so far this term.
He must improve his game and deliver a better performance for his team in their next away game at Arsenal.
