West Ham seal first Women’s Super League win over Arsenal | OneFootball

West Ham United came from behind to record an historic Barclays Women’s Super League victory over Arsenal.

Manchester United 2-0 Brighton & Hove Albion (Att: 4,060)  West Ham United 2-1 Arsenal (Att: 4,172)  Manchester City 2-0 Leicester City Liverpool 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur Chelsea 3-0 Everton

West Ham went up two places to ninth on goal-difference, with a long-awaited win against Arsenal. The Hammers held out against the Gunners for 42 minutes, with the help of the crossbar denying Vivianne Miedema, until Alessia Russo was gifted a far-post free header from a corner kick. Vivianne Asseyi levelled with a penalty early in the second half, given for Steph Catley’s challenge on Riko Ueki. Before the hour mark the hosts had turned it round, a poor punched clearance from Manuela Zinsberger falling for Hawa Cissoko whose half-volley found the empty net.

Chelsea ended the day back on top of the table after seeing off Everton. The Toffees’ Clare Wheeler conceded a 26th-minute penalty for a challenge on Johanna Rytting Kaneryd, Guro Reiten fired the spot-kick into the bottom corner. Into the last 20 minutes and Wheeler was penalised in the box again, this time Mayra Ramirez winning the penalty and Reiten again converting. Everton had head coach red-carded for two quick cautions, Erin Cuthbert then made it 3-0 when played in by Mia Fishel.

Manchester City left it late to see off Leicester City, scoring twice in the last eight minutes or so to briefly go top on goal-difference. Khadija Shaw was denied goals by the offside flag and the crossbar but it was from her cross that Lauren Hemp acrobatically made the breakthrough. Chloe Kelly scored direct from a corner kick, her in-swinging effort going inside the far post.

Nikita Parris netted in either half as Manchester United beat Brighton 2-0. Parris gave the Reds a ninth-minute lead from a Geyse cut-back, United’s Mary Earps made a flying save to keep out Elisabeth Terland’s half-volley. Parris got her second on 64 minutes with Geyse again providing the assist, Marc Skinner’s side finishing the day four points short of third-placed Arsenal.

Liverpool levelled late on to draw with Tottenham and stay goal-difference ahead of them in fifth spot. Spurs struck in the last 20 minutes, Celin Bizet managing to direct a volley from Martha Thomas’s ball over Rachel Laws and into the net. Tottenham’s Amanda Nilden beat the offside trap but was thwarted by the far post, then in the first of seven added minutes Spurs failed to clear the ball and Marie Hobinger slotted home.
