West Ham United are desperate to add a new striker in the winter transfer window amid injuries to Niclas Fullkrug and Michail Antonio.
The Hammers have reportedly agreed a deal with Brighton & Hove Albion to sign Evan Ferguson on loan for the remainder of the season.
But despite the 20-year-old imminent arrival, West Ham are also trying to sign Lorient striker Eli Junior Kroupi.
This is according to Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth who report the Irons are proposing a deal worth £35 million for bringing the talented youngster to the London Stadium.
They are now awaiting a decision from Les Merlus owner Loic Fery, but it is said a transfer is unlikely to happen in this window.
Kroupi is an academy product of Lorient, who has made great progress in the last few years.
He has made 51 senior appearances across all competitions for the French club, scoring 15 goals and registering five assists in the process.
However, Kroupi is still very young and inexperienced, and doesn’t look to be ready to play in the Premier League.
Spending a huge £35m on a teenager playing in France’s second tier looks to be a very risky business on the part of West Ham.
Graham Potter’s side are very close to completing a move for Ferguson, who is highly talented and has proven his skills in the English top-flight.
Given the Irish footballer’s arrival, it doesn’t make sense to make a move for Kroupi as well.
