West Ham United’s first three games on their return to action could be key in determining manager David Moyes’ future at the London Stadium, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Irons currently sit one point and two places above the Premier League’s relegation zone.

West Ham manager news – David Moyes

According to 90min, the West Ham hierarchy have told Moyes that his job at the London Stadium is safe for now.

However, the same report goes on to suggest that the club and majority shareholder David Sullivan have told the Scotsman that results need to improve quickly.

Moyes is currently enjoying a second spell as manager of West Ham, having been appointed in December 2019 to help keep the east London side in the Premier League.

Despite the interruption of the Covid pandemic, the former Manchester United manager delivered just that, before consecutive European placed finishes represented a complete turnaround in fortunes for the Irons since his appointment.

However, despite progressing to the Europa League semi-finals last season, this campaign has been tough for Moyes and West Ham, though the club have topped their Europa Conference League group to secure their place in the last 16 of Europe’s third-tier competition.

And Jones believes that the first three games back could be critical for the 59-year-old’s long-term future in east London.

What has Jones said about West Ham and Moyes?

Jones told GiveMeSport: “The first three games back will be key for Moyes in deciding how much longer he is going to be the manager of West Ham.”

What next for Moyes and West Ham?

Jones has already told GiveMeSport that the number of points earned from the Irons’ first three games could determine the outcome of his future at the east London side.

It’s not an easy return for the former Everton manager either, with the side travelling to league leaders Arsenal on Boxing Day evening in their first game back, before welcoming Brentford on New Year’s Eve and a trip to Leeds United in their first game of 2023.

In terms of potential managerial options for the Hammers, Jones has previously told GiveMeSport that recently-sacked Belgium manager Roberto Martinez could be an option for GSB if they eventually decide to part ways with their current manager.

Whilst Moyes has achieved a lot of success at West Ham and has more than enough time to turn things around at the London Stadium, it is unlikely that GSB are going to settle for a relegation battle this season, with the club having spent over £150m on transfers in the summer, and therefore it seems that the Scotsman’s days could be numbered if they don’t get at least one positive result before the new year.
