West Ham United are one of the clubs interested in signing Angers goalkeeper Yahia Fofana.
However, they are not alone in the race for the Ivory Coast international (18 caps). PSV, Eindhoven, Ajax, and Torino continue to sniff around the goods.
According to L’Equipe, “West Ham are also still in the running,” despite more concrete interest shown by suitors keen on his services.
The Hammers need a new number one after parting ways with stalwart Lukasz Fabianski and have been rummaging the market.
There have been links to Aaron Ramsdale (Southampton), Robert Sanchez (Chelsea), and James Trafford (Burnley), but nothing materialised.
Fofana is a new name on the list and caught the eye of suitors like West Ham after helping Angers finish 14th in Ligue 1.
He prevented a staggering 13.03 goals, keeping seven clean sheets in 33 appearances.
It is also worth noting that he has stopped 9% of the crosses into his box, which puts him in the 88th percentile amongst goalkeepers in the top five leagues.
His remarkable shot-stopping numbers put him on the radar of clubs like West Ham, but it remains to be seen if the Hammers can seal a deal to sign the 24-year-old.
Fofana would bolster a West Ham rearguard that is crying out for some defensive resolve.
The Irons have only Alphonse Areola between the sticks, and the Frenchman endured a woeful season.
Areola made three errors leading to a goal, and his goals prevented tally stands at an appalling -5.14, only one keeper in the Premier League recorded worse numbers.
West Ham cannot go into next season with Areola as the number one and need to add a reliable goalkeeper to the ranks.
Fofana fits the bill, but the East Londoners have been slow to pull the trigger this summer.
Perhaps the cash inflow from the Mohammed Kudus sale can be used to pursue reinforcement like Fofana.
