West Ham have reportedly joined Chelsea in the race to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney with the Championship club valuing the star at around £35m.

Toney has enjoyed an outstanding debut season for the Bees since signing from League One Peterborough last summer, scoring 30 league goals for the campaign to equal the Championship record with one game of the season remaining.

The 25-year-old’s goals have propelled Brentford into the play-offs and Thomas Frank’s side will hope to seal promotion after agonisingly missing out on the Premier League last term, finishing just two points outside the automatic places after a late season collapse before losing the play-off final to Fulham.

Brentford are braced for bids for a player who is attracting strong interest from the Premier League, and the Sun are reporting the forward is ‘certain’ to be sold should the club miss out on promotion.

Chelsea are believed to be monitoring Toney as they consider their centre-forward options, though have a number of targets higher in their list of priorities including Inter Milan’s Romelu Lukaku.

West Ham have now joined their London rivals in expressing an interest with David Moyes desperate to add firepower to his side, the Hammers having just Michail Antonio as a senior option at present.

Antonio has suffered injury problems this season and the sale of Sebastian Haller in January left Moyes short of attacking options, Jesse Lingard and Jarrod Bowen having been utilised in forward roles in Antonio’s absence.

Any deal for Toney is likely to cost £35m with Brentford set to make another huge profit on their leading man, having sold the likes of Ollie Watkins and Neil Maupay to Premier League sides for big fees in recent seasons.

Whether the Hammers would go that high is yet to be seen, with David Moyes having said the club would be unable to shell out the reported £40 million to land Chelsea and England striker, Tammy Abraham.
