West Ham United have several areas in the squad they must bolster in the summer transfer window. The Hammers could use a new striker, wingers, central midfielders, and a goalkeeper.

The engine room is a particular area of concern for West Ham. They have lacked guile and creativity through the middle. A midfielder should be one of the top priorities this summer.

The Hammers have reportedly decided against buying Carlos Soler from Paris Saint-Germain following his loan in East London, leaving them light in the centre.

Expect West Ham to add one or two central midfielders to strengthen their ranks this summer transfer window as they look to bounce back from an abysmal 2024/25 season.

Tottenham Hotspur have been tracking the 17-year-old. He is one of the most sought-after young talents in the Championship.

However, West Ham keep pushing ahead, looking to freshen up their midfield options. Hammers manager Graham Potter is keen to add more dynamism to his side. He has held internal discussions regarding a potential move for Rigg.

The teenager has been a standout performer for Sunderland this season, playing a key role in their push for promotion. He has scored four goals and created four big chances in 36 Championship appearances, catching the attention of several Premier League clubs.

Sunderland are in a strong negotiating position. The youngster signed a three-year deal last summer, meaning the club holds leverage in any transfer discussions, especially if they manage to secure a return to the Premier League.

Nevertheless, West Ham are monitoring the situation and see Rigg as a potential long-term solution to their midfield problems.

The club’s recruitment team and coaching staff admire his ability to drive forward with the ball and his tenacity in midfield battles.

West Ham have also explored signing Lille’s Angel Gomes on a free transfer, though the former Manchester United youngster has yet to accept their offer of a £100,000-a-week contract.

Furthermore, the Hammers could see interest in Czech Republic midfielder and underrated West Ham star Tomas Soucek, which may prompt further changes in the squad.
